Mystery of Patan Devi

Patandevi Temple is the main center of Shakti worship.

Patan Devi Temple located in Patna, the capital of Bihar, is considered to be the main center of Shakti worship. According to Goddess Bhagwat and Tantra Chudamani, the right thigh of Sati fell here. There is a lot of crowd here during Navratri. Prominent among the 51 Shakti Peeths of Sati, three forms of statues of Goddess are enshrined in this place of worship. Patan Devi is also two Chhoti Patan Devi and Bada Patan Devi, both have different temples.

The city protector of Patna is Bhagwati Patneshwari who is also known as Chhoti Patan Devi. Here in the temple premises, there are the maha Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati with gold jewelery, chhatra and chavar. People definitely come here after every Manglik work.

There is a huge pit behind this temple, which is called 'Patandevi Khanda'. It is said that three idols of Goddess were removed from here and installed in the temple. Although there is a huge crowd of devotees of the mother here every day, but as soon as the Navratri starts, there is an influx of devotees in this temple.
The elders here say that this temple was quite small during the reign of Emperor Ashoka. The idols of this temple are said to be of the Satyuga. There is a Yonikund in the temple premises, concerning which it is believed that the incense that is put in it goes into the ground, the Goddess is consumed raw food in the day and raw food at night. The tradition of sacrifice, which has been here since ancient times, is still present today.

It is the belief of the devotees that the devotees who come here and worship the mother with their true heart, their wishes are definitely fulfilled. The Mahant of the temple, Vijay Shankar Giri, tells that worship is done here through Vedic and Tantric methods.

 Vedic worship is public, while Tantric worship is only eight-ten minutes. But according to the legislation on this occasion, the bed of Bhagwati remains closed. They say that Sati's right thigh fell here, due to which it is one of the Shaktipeeths. They say that this temple is famous for the accomplishment of Kalik Mantra.

 Giri says that there is a great importance of Mahanisha Puja here in Navratri. The person who sees the mother after the aarti at 2.30 pm after the patta opens after worship at midnight, gets the blessings of Sakshat Bhagwati.

Story of Pataneswari temple 
According to a legend, Mother Sati could not bear her humiliation due to not getting an invitation to her husband Lord Shankar in her maiden yagna and jumped into the Havanakund of the yagna.

 Lord Shiva walked through the heavenly path, carrying Sati's burning body. To calm the anger of Lord Shankar, Lord Vishnu started the Sudarshan Chakra after which the body of the mother was cut in different places which later became famous as Shaktipeeth.
